How many cl is a white wine glass?
For fresh white wine, 20 to 30 cl is the standard. For mature chardonnay or white Burgundy, choose a wider bowl of 35 to 45 cl, because that wine needs more air to open up.
Why is a white wine glass smaller than a red?
Because white wine has to stay cool. A smaller wine surface absorbs less heat, and you top up small amounts more often, so the glass is empty before the wine turns lukewarm.
Can I use one glass for white and red?
That works fine with a universal bowl of 35 to 45 cl. You lose a little crispness with very fresh wine and a little aroma with heavy red wine, but for everyday use and in hospitality it is a practical choice.
At what temperature do you serve white wine?
Fresh white wine between 8 and 10 degrees, fuller and oak-aged wine between 10 and 12 degrees. Too cold pushes the aroma away, so you mainly taste acidity and the fruit disappears.
Can white wine glasses go in the dishwasher?
Yes, provided the stems do not touch and you use a short programme. Take the glasses out as soon as it finishes, because lingering steam settles as limescale and that makes thin bowls in particular turn cloudy quickly.
