How many cl should a tiki mug be?
Reckon on 40 to 50 cl for one recipe. Tiki cocktails contain several rums, juice and syrup and go over crushed ice, so a smaller mug will not hold it. For heavy drinks like the zombie, 53 to 70 cl is usual.
Can tiki mugs go in the dishwasher?
The glazed and glass pieces can go in on a normal programme. Mugs with a metallised coating in copper, gold or silver cannot: that turns dull from dishwasher detergent. Wash those by hand and dry them at once.
Where do tiki glasses come from?
From American bars of the nineteen thirties that dressed themselves up as Polynesian beaches. The mugs with masks and carving were part of that staging. The style largely disappeared in the seventies and has become popular again in recent years.
Why use crushed ice in tiki cocktails?
Crushed ice chills far faster than cubes and dilutes the strong rum mixtures to a drinkable balance. It also holds the garnish upright. Fill the mug right up and scoop in more ice after stirring.
