J-Line Tia

Anyone looking for a single range that covers the entire tableware set will find it in Tia. J-Line has created three glasses that together form a complete place setting: a 60 cl red wine glass, a 53 cl white wine glass, and a 28 cl champagne flute.

The fact that the three sizes share the same design language makes setting the table easier. The stems are the same thickness, and the bowls taper toward the rim in the same way, so a table with all three glasses looks cohesive rather than like a collection of mismatched pieces.

Three sizes, three jobs

The choice starts with what you pour. Sixty centilitres gives a full-bodied red the room to open up without your filling the glass too high: you fill to about a third and keep a good column of air above it. The 53 cl bowl is narrower and keeps white wine cool for longer, because less surface is in contact with the air. The 28 cl flute is tall and narrow, so the bubbles rise in a straight line and keep coming longer. If you are unsure about the sizes, compare with the red wine glasses and the white wine glasses.

How to pour

Pour red wine up to the widest point of the bowl and no higher, then you can swirl without spilling. Top up white wine in smaller amounts, so the rest of the bottle stays cool. Fill the flute slowly and at an angle along the wall, otherwise you lose half of it to foam. That same flute is the usual choice for a Kir Royal, a mimosa or a Bellini, serves that lose their bubbles within a few minutes in a wide bowl. Chill the flute beforehand and the head will hold longer.

Material and dishwasher

Tia is machine-made glass with an attached stem, not mouth-blown crystal. That makes the series better able to take daily use than a thin-walled crystal bowl. Place the glasses upright and apart in the dishwasher and choose a programme that is not too hot. On a stemmed glass it is rarely the bowl itself that breaks but the joint with the stem, and that joint suffers most from force and rapid changes in temperature.

Exploring the rest of the range

If you only want to top up the flutes because those are the ones that break most, all the sizes are gathered under the champagne flutes. For the broad overview of bowls in every size there are the wine glasses. The other series from the brand, including the coloured versions and the stemless glasses, are together on the brand page of J-Line.
