Which Silhouette size suits red wine?
The 47 cl bowl is the only real red wine bowl in this series. The wider curve lets you swirl the wine so the aroma is released, while filling it to a third still leaves plenty of air above the wine.
Can the Silhouette go in the dishwasher?
Yes, all models are dishwasher safe. Place the glasses upright in the rack and keep the bowls clear of each other, because most breakage happens when glasses tap together while the spray arm turns.
How full should you pour a stemmed wine glass?
To about a third of the bowl. The empty space above catches the aroma, and without it you mostly taste alcohol. In the 47 cl, a third works out at roughly fifteen centilitres of wine.
Why does a wine glass always break at the stem?
Because that is where the force lands the moment you twist the glass or lift it by the bowl. When drying, hold the glass with the bowl in your palm and don't wring the cloth round, and the join to the stem stays intact.
