Arcoroc Beer Legend

A beer glass does more than hold beer. Its shape determines how long the head remains and how much aroma rises from the glass, and this varies by beer type. Arcoroc’s Beer Legend series is designed around this principle: two glasses, each tailored to a different type of beer.

The 47 cl Lager glass is the slender option for pilsners and clear bottom-fermented beers. The 59 cl Brown glass is wider and taller, providing the space that dark and stronger beers need. Both are supplied in sets of six.

Which size suits which beer

Choose by capacity and by what you are pouring. A 30 cl bottle of lager fits comfortably into the 47 cl glass with a head; above the liquid you keep enough room to build the foam without it running over the rim. For a speciality beer from a 33 cl bottle, or for a tripel you serve with a generous head, the 59 cl is the wiser choice.

Pay attention to the rim as well. Beer Legend has a thin, reinforced rim, so the beer flows smoothly into your mouth and the head does not break straight away. A thick, rounded rim holds the foam back and makes the beer run in fits and starts.

How to pour a stable head

Pour in two movements. First hold the glass at about forty-five degrees and let the beer run down the side until the glass is half full, then bring it upright and carry on pouring into the middle. That builds a head of two to three centimetres, enough to hold on to the fizz and the aroma.

Serve lager at around five to seven degrees and dark beer a little warmer, between eight and twelve degrees, because beer that is too cold will not release its aroma. Rinse the glass with cold water before use and do not dry it; a slightly wet wall lets the foam build more evenly. For a kopstoot you set the lager glass alongside a shot glass.

Tempered glass and rinse aid

Beer Legend is made of tempered soda-lime glass, where the surface is under tension and therefore copes better with knocks and temperature differences than untempered glass. The glasses are dishwasher safe. Do not use a rinse aid with a greasy component, because a thin film of fat on the wall makes the head collapse within seconds; that is the most common cause of beer that looks flat.
