Chivas Regal Extra 13 Oloroso Sherry Cask
Chivas with a sherry character. Thirteen years old and finished in first-fill oloroso casks, for a rich blend with dried fruit, pear, vanilla, cinnamon and almond. Fuller than the 12, and still a whisky that is easy to mix.

What do those oloroso casks do?
Oloroso is a dry, dark sherry. Casks that have held this sherry give whisky a rich, nutty and lightly spicy character. With Extra 13, the blend is finished in first-fill casks: casks filled with whisky for the first time after holding sherry. They still contain the most sherry influence in the wood, so the impact is clearly noticeable.
The whisky itself is a Chivas blend of malt and grain whiskies, at least thirteen years old and bottled at 40%. The result is richer and sweeter than the 12, but also very drinkable: dried fruit, pear and vanilla up front, followed by cinnamon and almond. That puts it between the fresh 12 Years and the weightier 18 Years.
In brief
Pear, almond and warm spice
Pear and vanilla
Soft pear fruit, with vanilla and a nutty note from the sherry casks.
Rich and rounded
Intense and full-bodied, with cinnamon and almond. The sherry adds depth without making it heavy.
Spicy and nutty
A warm finish with cinnamon and almond that lingers longer than the 12.
Flavor profile of Chivas Regal Extra 13 neat. With a little water, the pear comes through more clearly.
Three ways to serve Extra 13
Neat or with water, the sherry casks are best allowed to speak for themselves. But the Extra 13 is also an excellent whisky for a bold cocktail.
Neat with a splash of water
30 ml in a tasting glass, then add a teaspoon of cool water. The water opens up the pear and vanilla and softens the cinnamon.

30 ml Extra 13, 30 ml Campari and 30 ml sweet vermouth stirred with ice and strained over an ice cube in a tumbler. The sherry notes beautifully balance the bitterness.
To the recipe →Whisky Sour with sherry character
50 ml Extra 13, 25 ml lemon juice, 15 ml sugar syrup and one egg white shaken dry, then with ice, and strained into a coupe. The almond and cinnamon give the sour a warm character.

The nutty sherry character makes Extra 13 a strong choice for cocktails with bitter flavors, citrus or honey.

Boulevardier
Whisky, Campari and sweet vermouth. The sherry casks give it a deep, rounded character.
Whiskey Sour
Whisky, lemon, sugar and egg white. With Extra 13, it gains notes of almond and cinnamon.
Penicillin
Blended Scotch with lemon, honey and ginger. A modern classic that calls for a full-bodied blend.
Paper Plane
Four equal parts: whisky, Aperol, amaro and lemon. Lightly bitter and surprisingly smooth.More Chivas Regal flavors
