What is Chivas Regal 18 Years?

Eighteen years of patience in one blend

Chivas Regal 18 Years is a blended Scotch in which the youngest whisky has spent at least eighteen years in casks. Those extra years make it richer and more complex than the 12 Years. The brand itself speaks of 85 flavor notes in every drop: a way of saying that you discover something new with every sip.

As with all Chivas, the heart is Strathisla from Keith in Speyside, complemented by older malt and grain whiskies. The alcohol content remains 40%. While the 12 is an all-rounder for ice and cocktails, the 18 is a whisky to taste neat, after dinner or as a gift for someone who enjoys smooth Scotch.

How to taste Chivas Regal 18

With the 18, it’s all about tasting. No soft drinks, preferably no ice, just a good glass and a little patience.

With a drop of water

Add a few drops of cool water to 30 ml of whisky with a pipette or teaspoon. This removes the sharpness and makes the fruit and chocolate more pronounced.

With a piece of chocolate

40 ml in a tumbler alongside a square of 70% dark chocolate. Alternate between a bite and a sip: the chocolate notes in the whisky will stand out even more.

Everything about Chivas Regal →
What percentage of alcohol is in Chivas Regal 18?
Chivas Regal 18 Years contains 40% alcohol, just like the 12 Years and the other Chivas Regals.
What is the difference between Chivas Regal 12 and 18?
The 18 contains only whiskies that are at least eighteen years old and is therefore richer, fuller, and more complex, with dried fruit, chocolate, and a long finish. The 12 is lighter and fruitier and is more intended for ice and cocktails.
What do the 85 tasting notes of Chivas 18 mean?
It is the description the brand itself uses for how layered this blend is. It is not a list to check off, but an invitation to taste slowly and discover what you recognize.
Do you drink Chivas Regal 18 with ice?
Preferably not. Ice dulls the aromas that make this whisky special. Drink it neat at room temperature, optionally with a few drops of water.
Is Chivas Regal 18 a good gift?
Yes, it is one of the best-known gift whiskies: recognizable, smooth, and approachable, even for those who do not like smoky whisky. Add a tasting glass, and the gift is complete.
