What is Chivas Regal XV?

Scotch with a French finish

XV is the Roman numeral for fifteen: the youngest whisky in this blend has spent at least fifteen years in casks. What truly sets it apart from the other Chivas Regals is the casks. Part of the blend is finished in cognac casks from Grande Champagne, France's most renowned cognac region. The wood gives the whisky a rich, sweet character with notes of raisins and cinnamon.

The foundation remains unmistakably Chivas: malt and grain whiskies from Speyside, with Strathisla at its heart, and, like all Chivas Regals, 40% alcohol. Compared with the 12 Years, the difference is immediately noticeable. XV is rounder, sweeter and fuller, making it a bottle best enjoyed neat or with one ice cube.

How to drink it

How to drink Chivas Regal XV

XV is made for sipping. Taste it neat first, then discover what a drop of water or a large ice cube does.

Neat in a tasting glass

Pour 30 ml at room temperature into a tulip-shaped glass. Let it stand for a minute, smell it first, then take small sips. This brings out the raisins and cinnamon best.

Tasting glasses →

With one large ice cube

Pour 40 ml over one large, clear ice cube in a heavy tumbler. The ice cools it without diluting it quickly and makes the sweetness more structured.

Tumblers →

XV Old Fashioned

Briefly stir 50 ml XV, 5 ml sugar syrup, and 2 dashes of bitters with ice, then strain over an ice cube. Squeeze an orange zest over it. Thanks to the cognac casks, you need hardly any sugar.

Everything about Chivas Regal →
How old is Chivas Regal XV?
XV stands for fifteen: the youngest whisky in the blend is at least fifteen years old. It may also contain older whiskies.
What percentage of alcohol does Chivas Regal XV contain?
Chivas Regal XV contains 40% alcohol, just like the 12 Years, the 18 Years and the other Chivas Regals.
What is the difference between Chivas Regal 12 and XV?
The XV is three years older and is partly finished in cognac casks from Grande Champagne. This makes it sweeter and richer, with raisin and cinnamon notes. The 12 is lighter and fruitier, with honey and apple, and is more of a whisky for ice and cocktails.
Is Chivas Regal XV a cognac?
No. It is a blended Scotch whisky from Scotland. Only some of the casks in which it was finished had previously held cognac. That is where the sweet, fruity notes come from.
How many calories does Chivas Regal XV contain?
Approximately 221 kcal per 100 ml. A 30 ml glass therefore contains around 66 kcal.
