Safari
The bright orange passion fruit, mango and papaya liqueur you drink with orange juice or 7-Up. Everything about the flavor, alcohol percentage, mixes and the glass that goes with it.

A Dutch tropical liqueur from 1984
Safari is an orange fruit liqueur with the flavor of exotic fruit: passion fruit, mango, papaya and a hint of citrus. At 20% alcohol, it falls between a sweet liqueur and a mixed drink, which is exactly what it was designed for: Safari is almost always drunk mixed with orange juice, 7-Up or tonic. Safari was introduced in the Netherlands in 1984, is now part of Diageo and remains a staple in bars and at student parties in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Safari belongs in the same category as Pisang Ambon and Passoã: brightly colored tropical liqueurs that form the basis of simple, fruity long drinks. Of the three, Safari is the most 'mixed-fruit', with a flavor that reminds many people of tropical soda.
In brief
Safari and the other tropical liqueurs
Safari comes in one flavor. These are the liqueurs you most often serve alongside it.

Safari
The iconic orange bottle: passion fruit, mango and papaya. Sweet and tropical, made for mixing with orange juice or 7-Up.

Pisang Ambon
The bright green banana liqueur with herbs, also made in the Netherlands. Sweeter and thicker than Safari, classically served with orange juice.

Passoã
French passion fruit liqueur, pink-red and slightly more tart than Safari. The basis of the Pornstar Martini.
Craving mixed tropical fruit? Safari. Pure passion fruit? Passoã. Banana? Pisang Ambon.
Sweet and tropical, like a fruit cocktail in a bottle
Passion fruit & mango
A sweet, tropical aroma of passion fruit, ripe mango and papaya, with a hint of orange.
Sweet and juicy
Full and sweet, with a slight citrus freshness. You barely taste the 20% alcohol, especially when mixed.
Short and fruity
A short, sweet finish of tropical fruit that calls for ice, juice, or bubbles.
Safari's flavor profile served ice-cold. Mixed with juice or 7-Up, it becomes lighter and fresher.
Three ways to drink Safari
Safari is best served mixed and ice-cold. Place the bottle in the refrigerator and use plenty of ice.
Safari jus
50 ml Safari with 150 ml orange juice in a highball glass full of ice. The classic: tropical, sweet, and orange from top to bottom.
Glass: highball glass →Safari 7-Up
50 ml Safari with 150 ml 7-Up or Sprite and a lime wedge in a highball glass with ice. Fresher and lighter than with juice.
Glass: highball glass →Ice-cold as a shot
2 to 4 cl Safari straight from the freezer in a shot glass. Sweet, fruity, and mild; the sugar prevents the bottle from freezing.
All shots →How to make Safari jus: the recipe step by step
Safari jus is the best-known way to drink Safari. With the right ratio and plenty of ice, it tastes refreshing rather than sweet.
What you need
5 cl Safari
15 cl chilled orange juice
A highball glass full of ice cubes
Half an orange slice
How to make it
1. Place the bottle of Safari and the juice in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
2. Fill a 30 to 40 cl highball glass to the rim with ice.
3. Pour the Safari over the ice first, then add the orange juice.
4. Stir two or three times from the bottom upwards.
5. Place the half orange slice on the rim and serve immediately.
Tip
The ratio is one part Safari to three parts juice. If you find it too sweet, use one part Safari to four parts juice or replace one third of the juice with sparkling water. If you're making it for a group, mix 25 cl Safari with 75 cl juice in a pitcher and add the ice to the glasses only when serving. View our highball glasses.
