Piper-Heidsieck
Piper-Heidsieck is one of the oldest Champagne houses in the world, founded in Reims in 1785. You can recognize the bottles by their bright red label. The style is fruity and approachable. Here you'll read how the bottles differ, how to serve them and which glass to use.
One of the oldest Champagne houses
Florens-Louis Heidsieck founded the house in Reims in 1785. This makes Piper-Heidsieck one of the oldest Champagne houses still in existence. The Piper name was added later, when Henri-Guillaume Piper joined the company. The house is one of three Champagne brands bearing the Heidsieck name; they share a common origin but have long been separate companies.
Piper-Heidsieck's style is fruity, lively and approachable. Its signature champagne is the Brut, made from the three Champagne grape varieties, with a prominent role for Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. You can recognize the bottles by their bright red label. Alongside the Brut, there is a rosé, a sweeter Demi-Sec, also known as Cuvée Sublime, and a vintage champagne. Piper-Heidsieck's prestige cuvée Rare originated here and is considered one of the most exceptional champagnes in the region.

Our champagne page explains exactly what brut, demi-sec and millésimé mean, including the grams of sugar.
Fruity, creamy and approachable
Pear & citrus
Pear, apple and citrus, with a soft note of brioche. The rosé smells of red fruit and rose petals, while the Demi-Sec smells of vanilla and praline.
Lively and creamy
Piper-Heidsieck is fruity and easy to drink. Pinot noir and meunier provide roundness, while the bubbles are lively and creamy.
Fresh and fruity
The Brut's finish is fresh, with citrus and white fruit. This makes it work well as an aperitif and in cocktails.
Flavour profile of the Brut. The Demi-Sec scores much higher on sweetness; Rare and Millésime score higher on power.
Three ways to serve Piper-Heidsieck
Chill the bottle to 8 to 10 degrees and twist the bottle, not the cork, when opening it. The cork will then come out with a sigh, keeping the bubbles in the bottle.
Neat as an aperitif
Pour down the side of a tilted glass and fill it to about two-thirds. A 75 cl bottle yields about five glasses. The Brut pairs well with drinks and nibbles, shrimp and small bites.
Glass: flute or tulip →Demi-Sec with dessert
The Demi-Sec contains 33 grams of sugar per litre. Serve it well chilled with fruit desserts, cake or oliebollen at New Year's Eve. It tastes too sweet with a savoury dish.
