Wynand Fockink
Wynand Fockink is an Amsterdam distillery founded in 1679, with a tasting room in an alley behind Dam Square. Known for genever, aged from young to eleven years, and old-fashioned Dutch liqueurs.
An Amsterdam tasting room since 1679
Wynand Fockink is one of the oldest names in Amsterdam’s drinks scene. The distillery began in 1679 and is located in Pijlsteeg, a narrow alley just behind Dam Square. The tasting room is there too: a small, old-fashioned café where you drink genever and liqueur as people in Amsterdam have done for centuries. The glasses are filled to the rim, and you take the first sip leaning forward, without lifting the glass.
The range revolves around two things. First, the genever: a young and an old, plus Superior genevers aged for three, five or eleven years in oak barrels, as well as a five-year-old rye genever. Wynand Fockink also makes Dutch liqueurs with names you are unlikely to find elsewhere on the shelf, such as almond cookie, apple pie, liquorice and fennel. And for those who prefer gin, there is the Amsterdam Dry.

Malt wine, vanilla and soft spices
Malt & vanilla
Malty grain with soft spices. The Superior genevers also bring vanilla and oak, while the rye genever has a spicy note.
Round and full-bodied
Light and fresh in the young, full and slightly sweet in the old. The longer it is aged, the rounder and more complex it becomes.
Warm
A warm, soft finish. With the eleven-year-old, long, with wood and vanilla.
Tasting profile of Superior Genever 5 Years. The young genever is lighter; the liqueurs are high in sweetness.
Three ways to drink Wynand Fockink
As in the tasting room: a full glass, with the first sip taken without hands.
To the brim, bent forward
Fill a tulip glass of genever to the brim. Take the first sip bent forward, with your hands behind your back, so nothing is lost. Then lift the glass.
Glass: genever glass →Aged genever neat
Pour the Superior 5 or 11 Years at room temperature into a tumbler or tasting glass. Serving it cold closes off the vanilla and wood notes.
