Salmari
The pitch-black salmiak liqueur from Finland that you drink ice-cold as a shot. Everything about the flavor, bottles, Salmari cola and the glass that goes with it.

Salty licorice in a bottle, straight from Finland
Salmari is a Finnish liqueur made with salmiak, the salty licorice that is so popular in Scandinavia and the Netherlands. Salmiak is ammonium chloride, which gives licorice its distinctive salty, tingling flavor. Salmari combines this with licorice root and a touch of sweetness to create a deep-black liqueur at 25% ABV.
In the Netherlands, Salmari has become one of the most popular shots in just a few years, alongside Dropshot and Jägermeister. You drink it ice-cold from the freezer, straight as a shot or mixed with cola or an energy drink. There is now also a Salmari Vodka with the same licorice flavor, but at 40% ABV.
In brief
What types of Salmari are there?

Salmari Premium
The standard bottle. Intensely salty licorice with a soft, sweet finish. Best served ice-cold.

Salmari 35 cl
The same liqueur in a smaller bottle. Handy for trying it or taking it with you.

Salmari 3 litre
The giant bottle for parties. More than a hundred shots from a single bottle.

Salmari shots 24 x 3 cl
Twenty-four sealed 3 cl shot cups. Chill them, peel off the tab, and you're ready.

Salmari Vodka
The same licorice flavor, but as vodka: drier, stronger and less sweet.
The regular 70 cl bottle in the freezer, with a set of shot glasses beside it.
Salty, sweet and slightly tingling
Salmiak & licorice
The aroma of a bag of salty licorice hits you immediately: salmiak, licorice and a light hint of anise.
Salty and sweet at once
Ice-cold, Salmari is thick and smooth: sweet at first, followed by the salty kick of salmiak. The 25% alcohol is barely noticeable.
Long-lasting and licorice-like
The salmiak flavor lingers for a long time, with a slightly warming sensation. At room temperature, it is sharper and saltier.
Flavor profile of Salmari Premium served ice-cold. Salmari Vodka is drier and stronger.
Three ways to drink Salmari
Salmari belongs in the freezer. At -18 °C it becomes thick and smooth; at room temperature, the salmiak is much sharper.
Ice-cold as a shot
Pour 2 to 4 cl from the freezer into a shot glass with a thick base. Chill the glasses too. This is how Salmari is meant to be enjoyed.
Glass: shot glass →Salmari cola
50 ml Salmari with 150 ml cola in a long-drink glass full of ice. The licorice and cola enhance each other; a lime wedge makes it fresher.
Glass: long-drink glass →Salmari energy
A shot of Salmari in a tumbler, topped up with energy drink and ice. The Finnish counterpart to the Jägerbomb.
