Stroh 38
The Stroh you can simply drink. The same Austrian spices as the notorious 80, but at 38%: delicious in hot chocolate, with cola, or neat over ice.

Stroh at drinking strength
Stroh 38 is the mildest rum from Sebastian Stroh of Klagenfurt, the Austrian house that has made spiced Inländer rum since 1832. Its flavor is characterized by Austrian spices, with aromas of oak, vanilla, and orange. On the palate, you can taste the oak in which the rum was aged.
The difference from the familiar Stroh 80 lies in the alcohol content. While the 80 is too strong to drink neat and mainly ends up in Jagertee, punch, and the kitchen, the 38 is made to be poured straight into a glass. The producer recommends hot chocolate itself, and it is also excellent with cola or over ice.
In brief
Vanilla and oak, without the heat of the 80
Vanilla
Pleasantly strong, with a sweet vanilla aroma and spices and orange peel underneath.
Oak and spices
Sweet and rounded, with the oak from the aging and the Austrian spices clearly present.
Warm and smooth
A warm finish in which orange and vanilla linger, without the burning heat of the overproof.
Flavor profile of Stroh 38 neat. The vanilla and orange come through even more in hot chocolate.
How to drink Stroh 38
Warm in winter, cold with cola in summer. The 38 can do both.
In hot chocolate
Heat 200 ml hot chocolate, pour it into a handled glass, and stir in 30 ml Stroh 38. Top it with a dollop of whipped cream. This is how the producer recommends it.
Handled glasses →Stroh cola
50 ml Stroh 38 with 150 ml cola in a highball glass full of ice, with an orange wedge instead of lemon. It suits the orange notes better.
To the Cuba Libre →Straight over ice
Pour 4 cl Stroh 38 over a large ice cube in a tumbler. The cold makes it less sweet and brings the oak and spices to the fore.
Tumblers →Rum cocktails with an Austrian twist
